WARNING! Plastic baby food packets hold HIDDEN risks!
A new report, commissioned by Greenpeace International, has found microplastics in every baby food pouch (Danone’s Happy Baby Organics brand and Nestlé’s Gerber) it tested, estimating that a single Gerber pouch contains more than 5,000 microplastic particles and a Happy Baby Organics pouch contains more than 11,000. The study traced the likely source to the plastic lining of the pouches themselves.
The lab also detected a range of chemicals in both the baby food and the packaging, including a potential endocrine-disrupting chemical in the Gerber pouches.
“While alarming, we’re merely scratching the surface of a bigger problem – and yet we already have enough information to act with urgency. If we’re serious about children’s health, we cannot allow companies to serve them plastic with any meal, especially not their first.”

We are drowning in plastics!
Will You Take Action to Protect Our Fragile Earth Before It's Too Late?
- Exposing those who contribute to environmental destruction.
- Conducting science-based research.
- Taking direct action through creative, confrontational, and non-violent means.
- Pressuring governments and industries to recognise their responsibilities and have a more sustainable practice.
- Uniting community strength and advocating for stricter laws, eco-friendly policies and solutions.
Our independence is crucial to the effectiveness of our campaigns. We only accept donations from individuals and do not receive funding from governments, corporations, or political parties.
The climate crisis is right before our eyes, and you can help drive the solution!
The impact of the climate crisis in Malaysia is becoming increasingly severe. From devastating floods, prolonged heatwaves, peatland and forest fires, landslides, rising sea levels, hazardous air pollution that claims lives, to the threat of extinction for our unique flora and fauna.
- It has been found that Malaysia only has the capacity to recycle 16% of domestic + imported waste. As a result, very little domestic household plastics get recycled.
- Malaysia produces about 2.4 million tonnes of plastic waste per year, which is about 8 times the weight of the Petronas Twin Towers.
- The equivalent of a truckload of plastic enters the oceans every minute.
With your monthly donation, Greenpeace can have more resources and strength to push for climate crisis solutions, ensuring a more sustainable and peaceful Earth for current and future generations.
Take action now and donate to help make our campaigns stronger and more impactful. It all starts with YOU!
- By early 2019, the Malaysian government publicly announced the decision to send back imported waste intercepted at the Klang and Penang ports to its respective origins. The status of the discarded waste that remains in Malaysia remained uncertain, so we carried out a joint investigation in July and August 2019 at several locations suspected to have imported plastic waste on site.
- We continue to empower individuals towards more sustainable daily habits. Our ongoing efforts focus on showcasing the real-world impact of our initiatives, demonstrating positive influence we can create in our homes and communities.
- Greenpeace is actively involved in global plastics treaty negotiations. We have been tirelessly lobbying the Malaysian government to prioritise the plastic issue and take meaningful action. Our efforts aim to secure full commitment from governments to address plastic pollution effectively.
Greenpeace is campaigning for a strong Global Plastics Treaty that tackles plastic pollution at its root: production.
Our Approach
Plastic pollution doesn’t stop at borders, and neither should the solutions.
A strong Global Plastics Treaty sets global rules that hold the biggest polluters accountable, stop plastic dumping in vulnerable communities, and tackle the problem at its root: by cutting plastic production and focusing on upstream solutions, not just cleanup. Our approach focuses on turning this vision into reality:
Drive political action
We engage local and global policymakers through lobbying, roundtable discussions, and direct advocacy, encouraging them to champion a strong Global Plastics Treaty on behalf of our country and region.
Expose the system
Through investigations, research, and storytelling, we expose the companies driving plastic pollution and the false solutions like burning plastic or pretending recycling is enough.
Mobilise global pressure
We support people-powered actions across borders, from marching to digital campaigns, especially elevating voices from the Global South and frontline communities.
Center justice and equity
We work with allies, activists, and affected communities to ensure the treaty doesn’t just serve powerful countries or corporations, but protects people and the planet.

FAQ
Greenpeace relies on individual donations to maintain our independence. This means that we do not accept donations from any business, corporation, government or political party. Our work is fully powered by individual contributions and grants from private charitable foundations who share our values.
This ensures that we can fight solely for the benefit of the environment without being held to any group with vested interests that might try to influence us or threaten to withdraw funding.
This is what makes Greenpeace incorruptible and a true fighting force in the pursuit of a more green and peaceful world.
Regular monthly donations are critical to our success. They help us create, plan and implement effective long-term and strategic campaigns against complex issues like climate change and against massive corporations and governments. They also reduce administrative costs, which means your donation goes further.
Every year, Greenpeace publishes an Annual Report. Our annual report highlights updates from our campaigns and includes financial transparency reports. You can read the latest Annual Report here!
